Summer learning loss during elementary school accounts for two-thirds of the achievement gap in reading between low-income children and their middle-income peers by ninth grade. READCamp is the free virtual training camp for Summer Reading for K-12 students. Students participate in training, drills and practice in order to maintain literacy skills over the summer.
2021 ALSC Summer Reading Lists
The lists are full of book titles to keep children engaged in reading throughout the summer. Four summer reading book lists are available: Birth-Preschool, K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Each list is available to download for free.
Scholastic Summer Reading

SocialJusticeBooks.org is a project of Teaching for Change, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide teachers and parents with the tools to create schools where students learn to read, write and change the world. Reading aloud to children has been shown to improve reading, writing and communication skills, logical thinking and concentration, and general academic aptitude, as well as inspire a lifelong love of reading.
